The Summer I Turned Pretty fans have been scouring the Season 3 finale for hints at what’s to come for Conrad and Belly in the upcoming movie, and there’s one detail that they believe hints at a significant time jump.
Spoilers for The Summer I Turned Pretty ahead!
In the final scene of the finale, Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Belly (Lola Tung) return to the beach house at Cousins. Viewers were quick to point out that Belly’s hair was long enough to pull back into a bun. Moments before in the same episode, her hair had been cut into a chic bob while they were in Paris.
The Finale Detail That Has Fans Talking
With the growth of Belly’s hair, fans think that the couple returned to Cousins at least a year or more after their time in Paris together.
“What does everyone think of the last scene when Belly and Condad are visiting Cousins? Doesn’t seem like the immediate summer after the conference because Belly has her hair tied in a bun in that scene,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “But in Paris she just got a haircut in a blunt [bob] which can’t grow that long in a week’s or two time. Is it the next summer??”

Several people agreed with one person writing, “I assume it’s been a few years. My take is that she gets to finish what she started in Paris and Conrad gets to finish med school rotation at least then she comes back home. Whether they are engaged here is up for anyone’s guess – but I think they might have been engaged here already.”
Jenny Han Confirms the Movie Will Leap Ahead
Jenny Han, the author of the books the series is based on, confirmed that there will be a time jump in the movie, but how far into the future it will be isn’t as clear.
“I can’t say how far ahead it is, but it is ahead,” Han, 45, said in an interview with Variety published on September 18.

How Past Seasons Handled Time Jumps
For now, the exact timeline of Conrad and Belly’s next chapter is anyone’s guess, but Han has made it clear that fans should expect a jump forward. As both the author of the books and co-showrunner of the Prime Video series, she has steered these characters through more than one leap in time already. Season 2 picked up a year after the events of Season 1, and Season 3 jumped ahead again with Belly’s trip to Paris. The upcoming movie looks poised to continue that pattern, though just how far into the future remains under wraps.
