It’s staggering to believe that , almost five months ago, The Challenge 40 kicked off. Sporting its biggest cast ever, we’ve had 20 episodes of massive betrayals, relationships being formed and broken, and, of course, high-flying competition. Over the past two weeks, the eight remaining players got thrown literally into the deep end, taking part in a hellacious two-day final in the waters of the Philippines. And the show had one more trick up its sleeve, as the reveal of the season-long “karma vote” led to a shocking and historic outcome.

Who won The Challenge 40?

Jordan Wiseley

Jordan came into Season 40 later than the rest of the competition. But he quickly made up for lost time, getting in good with previous allies while proving his mettle in the physical aspect of the game. Shockingly, in a season that changed literal targets every round, Jordan became the only player to never go into elimination. But that time out of the sand made him far from rusty. Jordan took to the final like a literal fish to water, as his swimming skills put him out ahead of the rest of the men in nearly every checkpoint. As a result, Jordan took home his fifth win in commanding fashion, eager to use it to jumpstart his dreams of professional driving.

Jenny West & Rachel Robinson

Rachel and Jenny entered The Challenge 40 in two completely different places. Rachel had spent over a decade away from the show, but came in in the best shape of her life, eager to prove her staying power. This was only Jenny’s third season, but she was coming off of a win almost five years prior. Despite their different backgrounds, the two found themselves in the same place: Isolated. For Rachel, her Era 1 team had been slaughtered in the first phase of the game, leaving her alone. Jenny, meanwhile, found herself on the outside of many pre-existing relationships in Era 4, becoming a team scapegoat. Luckily, the two found each other in the individual game, becoming key cogs in the “Bananas’ Angels” alliance that helped take them to the final. In the end, Jenny absolutely dominated in the water, leading in the checkpoints. But Rachel’s social game, storyline, and Era 1 allies won her the karma vote. As a result, the two stunningly tied in the final score, becoming the first people to tie in an individual win in the show’s history.

Who was runner-up on The Challenge 40?

Derek Chavez

If you got $1,000 every time someone said Derek was a dark horse and underdog in the competition, you would get about as much money as he won in the final. Derek came into the season as one of the bigger X-factors, a usual early boot coming off of his first finals appearance on All Stars. The social element of the target twist worked in his favor, as his bonds with the women kept him safe for the majority of the competition. Even when Derek was vulnerable, he pulled through competitively, winning a daily and an elimination. Unfortunately, Jordan’s absolute dominance in the final meant Derek was locked out of the win. But he was thrilled to take home a second-place finish, eager to show everyone he’s proved his worth.

Michele Fitzgerald

After an incredibly dominant performance on Season 39, Michele had a much more up-and-down experience in Season 40. While she used the team phase to stay out of the spotlight, her growing showmance with Devin thrust her back into it. It culminated in a piece of advice from Bananas blowing up their friendship, turning them from allies to enemies for the rest of the game. Michele then went into underdog mode, fighting her way through three eliminations on the way to her first final. Despite the competition against her, Michele surprisingly held her own, benefiting from her swimming skills. The karma vote, unfortunately, catapulted Rachel past her in the final standings. By one point, Michele was left out in third place, clearly disappointed in the finish, by thrilled by how it happened.
