Rest easy, Roach. It’s time for Geralt of Rivia to mount his friends instead. This is the premise of my new AO3 fan fiction and also, one of the biggest new features for The Witcher Online mod.
The mod, which released in early 2026 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, already allows you to explore the Continent as if it were an MMO. But a new update for the social experience expands beyond simply allowing you to hang out and complete quests together. Now, players can kick-start their own economy with item trading. There are some quality of life improvements, like a new menu that allows you to see all the recently added emotes, chat options, and more in one place. You can customize both the appearance of your horse and your characters now, too.
Now that basic functions are in place, Witcher Online mod developer Rejuvenate seems to be pushing the mod in weird directions. The latest patch grants players the ability to ride other people as if they were a trusty steed. Users can stack multiple characters on top of one another this way, which will be useful for anyone tired of trying to corral everyone into the same area to progress in a quest. Or, as you can see in the trailer for the latest patch, you can use the mechanic to do things like pee alongside your closest bros. More normie players can choose to ride the same horse with their companions rather than becoming glued to one another, I guess.
Another silly but fun addition is the ability to turn into animals such as owls, cats, foxes, and crows using Geralt’s signs. The trailer shows all of these new functions alongside the new ability to give Geralt a unique server name — like, say, theSUPERstinkygamer920000.
You can check out the Witcher multiplayer mod here.
Players will need a “non-pirated copy of the latest version” of The Witcher 3 from a store like Steam or GOG, with version 4.04 or higher installed, to enjoy Witcher Online’s brand of silliness.
The Witcher 4 is being developed with a ‘console-first’ mindset, CDPR devs say
“It’s easier to scale up than down.”
