“I’m convinced that most (Not all) of  today’s so called soap fans are far removed from the sweet old ladies who watched it back in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s. The internet has created some Straight Savages who are mean spirited and tune in to just complain about the show’s they watch. What happened to watching Soaps for the love of it? Why are Y’all so mad, hateful and triggered for🧐?” read the X.

The comments section of his X saw Rivers receiving a lot of support and having positive conversations with fans.

“No triggering here Jermaine and I’m one of those ladies! You are soooo right tho ! Shame on some of the actions of those in the world today !” wrote one fan. Rivers replied, “Indeed!! There’s enough hate and division in the world. Soap actors, writers and crew members work hard to bring these shows together to entertain the fans. Let’s keep the hate out of the equation🙏🏾.”

Rivers engaged several times in his comments section to make it clear he was calling out the “nasty work” and “toxicity” he has seen online.

One fan mentioned that the soaps do give fans a lot to complain about, but fans also praise the show when it is good, which is when the actor immediately stepped in to defend the soaps.

“It comes down to Emotional Intelligence… if someone gets triggered by watching a Soap there’s a deeper problem that’s not being addressed in their personal life. It’s clearly evidence of some unhealed trauma that the viewer hasn’t worked through. Let’s not place blame on a fictional TV character or storyline that’s being played out for entertainment purposes as an excuse for toxic behavior. We’re not dodging accountability over here!” he expressed.

Rivers’ remark sparked outrage from a fan who had some harsh words for him.

“You wrote all that just to say “if you didn’t like it, you must be broken.” Be serious. If viewers being “triggered” by lazy writing is too much for you, maybe you should work through why criticism makes you spiral into armchair therapy,” said the fan.

There are many mixed feelings regarding what Rivers said about the soap fandom. However, it seems The Young and the Restless star simply wants to share meaningful dialogue and spread love, as he wrote in his X as hashtags.

The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS.
