There’s a lovely island in Ontario home to two communities with scenic beaches and a thrilling waterfront. Need a change in scenery? Head to St Joseph Island.

This little slice of paradise is about a six-hour drive away from Toronto. It’s not day trip worthy but if you’re in the area, it’s a must-visit island.

Nestled in the channel between Lake Huron and Lake Superior, St. Joseph Island consists of two communities, Richards Landing and Hilton Beach.

Here you’ll find great restaurants, campgrounds, motels, full-service marinas and charming shops.

The Island is actually linked to the mainland by a non-toll bridge that opened in 1972, according to Algoma Country.

You’ll find multiple parks and scenic beaches on the island, including Women’s Institute Park which has floating docks, a sandy shoreline, and picnic shelters. The island recommends swimming here.

And of course, it’s also a boater’s paradise. There are two full-service marinas located on the Island and many fishing opportunities year-round to catch northern pike, trout, bass and salmon, according to its webite.

Richards Landing is the main part of town with a full-service marina and a shoreline boardwalk, with plenty of places to stop for food and drinks along the way.

Boaters must pay a visit to the scenic Whiskey Rock for views of towering cliffs and turquoise water.

Now this is an adventure we can’t to explore.
