With prices climbing at Canadian grocery stores and pharmacies, more and more people are turning to Dollarama to score name-brand products for less. And while not everything on the shelves is a hidden gem, some deals are too good to pass up.

With that in mind, we recently took to Facebook to ask MTL Blog readers, “What’s a name-brand product you regularly buy at Dollarama, and why?”

Here are some of the top responses.

Pam cooking spray

Great for baking or meal prep, multiple people said it’s the same spray you’d find elsewhere — just cheaper.

Colgate toothpaste

With tubes going for as low as 75 cents, this bargain is pretty hard to pass up.

Tide laundry detergent

This one came up more than once.

“Just compare the regular price in other places like Pharmaprix. Same bottle, same size. Almost twice more expensive,” one user said. “When they put it ‘on sale,’ the price becomes what it costs always at Dollarama.”

Batiste dry shampoo

One reader noted how this cult-fave beauty item usually goes for way more at other stores.

Resolve stain remover

One of the most recommended cleaning products.

“Always much cheaper than stores — $3.50,” one comment read.

Lysol and Febreze

Bathroom essentials that cost less and get the job done were also mentioned, with one user swearing by the dollar store’s variety of “Lysol toilet bowl [cleaner], Febreze and stuff.”

Birthday cards

Many folks are not willing to dish out six or seven bucks on a card and envelope at the pharmacy. As a result, multiple replies mentioned how much less expensive they are at Dollarama. Gift bags and party supplies also got shoutouts.

Dawn and Palmolive dish soap

People love the price of dish soap at Dollarama, but not everyone’s convinced about the quality.

“Compare a bottle of Palmolive at Walmart and the same bottle at Dollarama,” one person noted. “The dollar store one pours out like water.”

Chips and candy

Anyone who’s been to the checkout section of a Dollarama knows how vast the store’s candy selection is. Standout snacks included Twix and Caramilk bars and bags of Miss Vickey’s chips, which apparently go for around $3 a pop.

Ziploc bags

People love their Ziploc bags and many seem to be flocking to Dollarama to replenish their stock. Other kitchen essentials, like aluminum trays, were also listed.

Old Spice body wash

Brand-name cosmetics and toiletries have been showing up more often at Dollarama. One user said they regularly grab Old Spice body wash at the discount store.

Crayola crayons

Dollarama has seriously stepped up its craft aisle in recent years, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed. One user highlighted the store’s affordable colouring kits as a go-to for kids. You’ll also spot big-name brands like Crayola on the shelves.
