What’s integral to a good city? Sure, great places to shop, eat and dance are a must, but so is a knockout museum, and 2025 is set to see plenty of shiny new cultural spaces open their doors to visitors.
published a list of all the best exhibitions launching over the year ahead, but Lonely Planet has also just released a list of the new museums it’s most excited about – so let’s take a look.
Topping the roundup is Poland’s brand new Museum of Modern Art, which is finally getting a permanent home and will be open from February 21.
As we reported back in November, the collection will be taking up a permanent address opposite Warsaw’s Palace of Culture and Science in a brilliant white building, and its first exhibition will feature nine installations by Polish and international women artists.
Elsewhere on the list is the reopening of New York City’s Studio Museum, which has been closed since 2018. According to Lonely Planet, ‘the brand-new building is clad in stylishly dark concrete, with bronze accents, yet allows for plenty of light to flood into its galleries.’
The museum’s collections have historically been conversation-provoking, and its artists-in-residence programme has played a huge role in spotlighting promising new artists. No wonder we named visiting the stunning new location as one of the most exciting new things to do this year, eh?
