The cost of living in Europe varies enormously from place to place – you could be paying half a month’s salary for a dinner out in some cities, while in others a bottle of beer will cost you less than a euro.
But rent is usually a pretty good marker of how expensive a city is, and new research reveals which destinations in Europe have the most eye-watering costs. Claiming the top spot as the most expensive city to rent in Europe? It’s London. Shocker.
That’s right, based on data from euronews and Rightmove, the average rent in London has soared to a staggeringly pricey €3,220 per month – 2.5 percent up from last year. No wonder so many people are pet-sitting and subletting to cop a deal.
In second place it’s Amsterdam, which according to Statista costs €2,275 per month for a one-bedroom furnished apartment. Dutch cities feature heavily on this list, with Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht also making the top 10.
