Car theft has gone up in Western Canada, and new data revealed which vehicles are the most stolen in the province of Alberta.
Équité Association’s annual report broke down car theft stats across the country, and some provinces saw a major uptick in auto theft. Western Canada as a whole just saw a 5.5% increase, from 2021-2023, but the report said that “Alberta experiences more auto theft per capita than Ontario.”
In Alberta specifically, 44% of all stolen vehicles were trucks — so anyone with a pickup might want to be on high alert. 33% of the stolen vehicles were also made between 2003-2009. As for the types are cars that are most stolen, the report ranked them in a list of 10, for 2023.
