There’s so much that goes into a brilliant restaurant – the lighting, the décor, the service, the food (obviously) – but not every single one is appropriate for every occasion.
Handily, TripAdvisor’s annual Travellers’ Choice Awards ranks restaurants by category, so if you’re planning a romantic evening or need to bring the dog along, are dining with a vegetarian or really want to splash out, you’ll have a solid idea of where to go.
This year’s roundup includes restaurants from more than 60 countries all over the world, across eight different categories. Planning a date night? The winner in that category is Alameda Suiça, just outside of São Paulo in Brazil. Looking for a sustainable place to eat? Check out Restaurant Château Neercanne in the Netherlands.
The best hidden gem restaurant for 2024 is Ponchos Food & Wines in Peru; the best vegan restaurant is Chia Vegan Kitchen, also in Peru, and the best outdoor restaurant is Thes ‘Greek Creative Cuisine’ in (you guessed it) Greece, which also ranked as the eighth best casual restaurant in the world.
The winner of that category was Organika (again, in Peru), which serves up homemade pasta and pizza with a Peruvian twist. As for fine-dining, the winner of that category was Restaurant Pic in Valence, France, which also appears in the Michelin Guide. France actually claims four of the top 10 spots in this group – not bad, eh?
