Oh, Canada! It’s a universal experience when Canadians see other Canadians doing big things. We love telling people, “Did you know *blank* is Canadian?” Admit it, you’ve done it at least once. With Canada Day around the corner, I thought it would be fun to round up all the celebrities we know and love that are Canadian or have a Canadian connection you may not know about.

Let’s dive in, eh?

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson

This one even surprised me. While Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wasn’t born in Canada himself, his father was.

Yep, his dad was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, and Johnson even gained his Canadian citizenship when he was 37 years old.

Oh, and he had a stint playing in the Canadian Football League.

Elton John

One of the greatest musicians of our time has a Canadian connection through marriage.

Elton John is married to David Furnish, a filmmaker from Scarborough. Who knew he’d be one degree of separation from being a Toronto manz?

Vince Vaughn

Another one that surprised me.

When actor Vince Vaughn isn’t making you laugh out loud in one of his many comedies, he’s spending downtime with his Canadian wife Kyla Weber.

Weber was born in Okotoks, a town in the Calgary region of Alberta.

Hayden Christensen

While I knew Harden Christensen, aka Anakin Skywalker, was born in Canada, I did not know that he’s owned a farm near Toronto since 2007.

While I can’t find an official source, the actor has talked about it in a handful of interviews over the years. Apparently, the space is around 200 acres. Yeehaw!

The ones you probably knew about

While you likely already knew these celebrities were Canadians, I just had to mention them, too.

  • Sandra Oh – born in Ottawa, Ont.
  • Justin Bieber – born in Stratford, Ont.
  • Shawn Mendes – born in Pickering, Ont.
  • Seth Rogen – born in Vancouver, B.C.
  • Michael J. Fox – born in Edmonton, Alta.
  • Ryan Gosling – born in London, Ont.
  • Will Arnett – born in Toronto, Ont.
  • Pamela Anderson – born in Ladysmith, B.C.
  • Shania Twain – Windsor, Ont.
  • Ryan Reynolds – born in Vancouver, B.C.

The more you know! Happy Canada Day.
