Whether you’re craving a cozy day trip or an adventure in autumn colours, these spots are the ultimate fall getaway.

Awenda Provincial Park is a nature lover’s answer when in search of thrilling outdoor adventures. With a symphony of trails, history, and seasonal fun, this natural gem is home to unforgettable escapes and even ancient dune systems.

According to Ontario Parks, it is home to seven trails stretching more than 30 km, an interior lake for canoeing, and a number of camping options.

Love cottage country? Make a trip to Ontario’s Kawartha Lakes this fall season and explore Balsam Lake Provincial Park.

Here you’ll find plenty of trails, perfect for unwinding under the glow of golden hour. One of these trails leads to a panoramic lookout, perfect for taking in autumn sights.

Those looking for a longer excursion will enjoy the 4.2 km Woodland Trail, described by Ontario Parks as “a moderate forest trek with both natural and pioneer highlights.”

The distance from downtown Toronto is about two hours northeast. It’s the perfect day trip.

The provincial park describes itself as a “hidden gem,” and, based on the gorgeous views, activities, and amenities, we’d have to agree.

Enjoy a day of fishing, canoeing, camping, bird-watching, picnicking, and boating. Oh, and of course, there are tons of hiking trails to do at Darlington, too.

The area has a country feel, with rural farms and rolling hills, but is quickly transforming with many places to stroll, shop, and dine.

Darlington Provincial Park is just a quick 45-minute drive from Toronto! The road trip is easy to do in one day, just past Oshawa.

Earl Rowe Provincial Park serves as a prime escape this fall season, to be one with nature, embracing the beauty of the colour-changing leaves and brisk weather.

Just about an hour and a half from Toronto is this lovely provincial park, offering a little of everything for outdoor lovers.

We’re talking canoeing, kayaking, paddle boating and fishing. The park also has multiple trails, including one with a stunning lookout point you won’t want to miss out on. Conveniently named the Lookout Trail, this adventure takes you to panoramic treetop views that are truly spectacular in the fall.

Where: 4998 Concession Rd. 7, Alliston, Ont.

Spanning 68 hectares in southwestern Ontario’s Carolinian forests, this hidden gem is a haven for nature lovers.

Here, you can take in the amazing views from the 33-metre cliff overlooking the sparkling blue waters of Lake Erie.

Once you’ve soaked up the vistas, you can have a picnic in the cool shade of the forest canopy. This wonderful park features a rare Carolinian forest that glows with golden hues in autumn.

It’s a must-visit.

Nestled on the south shores of Lake Simcoe, this park is a peaceful place to spend an afternoon hiking and enjoying a few fall activities.

“While the beach draws crowds in warmer months, autumn brings understated beauty — goldenrods and asters bloom across meadows, attracting butterflies, beetles, and birds like goldfinches,” shares Ontario Parks.

Where: 26071 York Rd. 18, Sutton W., Ont.

Silent Lake Provincial Park is about two and a half hours east of Toronto. This Ontario park is home to over 19 km of hiking trails with scenic lookout points and 17 km of mountain biking trails.

This is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise, featuring canoe adventures on a 2.5 km long lake and stunning surrounding scenery.

And it’s important to note that Silent Lake stays true to its name – it’s silent as no motorboats or electric motors are permitted.
