Here’s a spooky road trip idea, BC! Situated near the famed ‘Valley of the Ghosts,’ the joint townships of New Denver and Silverton are connected by a short but scenic drive, and they’re both spots that you’ll want to get out and explore on foot.

Located on the eastern shores of the beautiful Slocan Lake surrounded by the peaks of the Selkirk Mountains, the pair both include restored historical downtowns with a variety of local shops, restaurants, and cafes to check out. So get ready to step back in time and peruse charming neighbourhood streets lined with heritage buildings.

The New Denver Orchard serves as a stark reminder of the internment of Japanese Canadians during WWII. Visitors can learn more about those affected through experiential museums like the Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre, which strives to share the stories of internees.

In Silverton, visitors can see remnants of the area’s mining past, including a 104-year-old schoolhouse, a restored blacksmith shop, the Silverton Gallery, and an Outdoor Mining Museum, according to Arrow Slocan Tourism.

In terms of outdoor activities, you’ll find plenty of quaint beaches, area parks, and trails for hiking, biking, and skiing in both communities.

Looking for somewhere cozy to stay? Consider checking out one of New Denver’s Adventure Domes – a collection of four picturesque, eco-friendly cottages shaped like domes, surrounded by beautiful gardens between the Selkirk and Valhalla mountains.

Currently, there is availability throughout November and December, and domes start at $150 per night for two adults.

So there you have it, small-town lovers!
