Have you heard of Boega Island? Given it was last occupied many years ago and has pretty much been left alone ever since, the answer is probably not – until now.
The 50-hectare patch of land sits in the Minho River on the Spanish-Portuguese border, is around an hour and 20-minute drive from Porto, and just 50 minutes from Vigo, a small city in Spain.
It used to be home to a farming settlement, but is now the location of a huge development that will soon open a brand-new theme park. The project is a joint venture between companies BlueCrow Capital, Obvious Gravity and Storyland Studios, and will be known as Porto Boega.
As well as rides and rollercoasters, the theme park will be home to shops and restaurants. Oh, and like all good theme parks, the place will have a ‘story’, centred around a bunch of characters from different cultures who have all been invited to the island.
But other than that, we don’t know a lot about what the rides and rollercoasters will actually be like, nor when the park will open, or how much it will cost to build – and it will likely be years in the making.
