Here’s another fun Vancouver Island destination for you. If you’re looking for a mix of shaded trails, sunny beaches, and dozens of cool, ‘undiscovered’ caves, it’s time to add the coastal village of Zeballos to your map this summer.
The vibrant community is full of wilderness trails, rich intertidal marine life, and ancient village sites. So rally your pals together for the adventure of the season!
Some of the best cold water diving on the Island can be found just a short boat ride away from Zeballos, as well as the largest active river cave system known in Canada, according to its website.
The latter has been caused by the continuous erosion of limestone running down from the historic ‘hamlet’ of Quatsino – AKA one of Vancouver Island North’s first communities.
Visitors can explore the region’s extensive natural history at the nearby Artlish Caves,
Nuchatlitz, Catala Island, and Rugged Point Provincial Parks.
There are also scenic boardwalk trails visitors can follow through stunning old-growth forests throughout the Village.
