Several major restaurant chains have been actively working to reduce their costs as a result of a dip in foot traffic, the rise of online ordering and the lingering woe’s of the Covid-19 pandemic. This has resulted in the closure of a number of storefronts across the continental United States, with brands like TGI Friday’s, Denny’s, Hooters and Pollo Tropical all taking a hit in the name of restructuring their businesses.

Joining the ranks of other long-standing chains such as itself, Del Taco has abruptly closed nearly all of its Colorado-based restaurants. A spokesperson with the chain noted that 18 out of the 19 locations are only “temporarily closed” and are expected to reopen “as soon as possible.”

In Aurora, Colorado, a sign was posted on the door by the staff of one Del Taco location, stating that “all Colorado Del Taco locations are closed until further notice.” Local news stations in the area reported that the phone lines were out of service at a number of Del Taco locations in the state, along with online ordering being out of service. According to officials at Del Taco, however, one single location in Grand Junction has remained open due to it being owned and operated by a franchisee.

For now, fans in Aurora, Colorado Springs, Lakewood, Brighton, Castle Rock, Centennial, Commerce City, Denver, Englewood, Firestone, Greeley, Lone Tree and Parker will have to live without their beloved taco joint. And while many Americans across the country are already eating out less due to the constant rise of inflation, it does hurt the heart to learn a reliably affordable option is no longer in service.

“Del Taco is proud to have been serving the state of Colorado since 2003 and we appreciate the ongoing support of our loyal guests,” the spokesperson told the media. “At this time, our Denver and Colorado Springs franchise locations are temporarily closed. We will re-open these locations as soon as possible and will share updates as they become available. Thank you for your patience and support.”

As of right now, Del Taco has yet to disclose exactly what led to the Colorado restaurant closures, leaving fans out of the loop with only the choice to speculate. And without an official roadmap or timeline for when these locations would be set to reopen, it only further causes distress within the truly loyal Colorado fan base and those in surrounding areas. Here’s hoping Colorado isn’t just the start of a much bigger wave of closures, and those in the aforementioned cities get their favorite chain back in operation.
