Located on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains is Nordegg, a gorgeous hamlet in Alberta. This former coal-mining town is home to some absolutely stunning sights, wildlife galore, and the actual experience of the outdoors. Here, adventure can be found every which way.
With stunning canyons, incredible peaks, glaciers, amazing rivers and the ice bubbles of Abraham Lake, Nordegg is a spot you won’t want to miss this winter.
An abundance of outdoor activities
Nordegg is well-known for its expansive outdoors. You can go hiking on one of its many trails and take in the winter sights. There are more than a few canyons to explore, and so many options to uncover.
If you’re looking for a tour instead of exploring yourself, Nordegg and Abraham Lake Adventures has you covered. For this season, they are hosting their winter tours. Take a walk across Abraham Lake, visit the famous ice bubbles, and go Nordic skating; these tours have it all.
These tours can also be the best way to see the famous ice bubbles in Abraham Lake. You do not need a guide to gaze upon the magnificent ice creations from nature, but tours can provide increased safety as well as informed guidance.
If you’re more interested in Abraham Lake, there are more lakes in the vicinity! Although Abraham Lake is the most famous, being the only one with ice bubbles, Goldeye Lake and Shunda Lake are just as beautiful.
Featuring a beautiful frozen waterfall
You can also find Crescent Falls in the hamlet, which, in the winter, turns into an icy array of beauty. This stunning, two-tiered waterfall can be found on the Bighorn River.
For the season, you can gaze upon the magic of nature. A large waterfall turns into an icy work of art during the winter, and we definitely recommend making a stop to see it.
There is currently winter access to the viewing platforms, but more information can be found on the Alberta Parks website.
In essence, Nordegg is one of the best pit stops in the Rockies for you, outdoorsy folk. If you’re looking to get the most out of the snowy weather, this place is absolutely for you.
