These days, more and more women are refusing to accept that their “best years” are behind them—and with good reason. Whether it’s getting in the best shape of their lives in their sixties, prioritizing their health in later years, or feeling more confident in their style and who they really are as individuals, women over 50 are finding happiness—as well as success—more easily than when they were in their 20s or 30s.

To MSNBC’s Morning Joe talk show host and “Know Your Value” creator Mika Brzezinski, 57, this comes as no surprise. In fact, she can pinpoint one specific trait that all successful women over 50 share.

The #1 Trait All Successful Women Over 50 Share, According to MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski

“You know the term ‘zero you-know-whats’? OK, that’s a real state of being,” Brzezinksi laughs. “I have to tell you, we all share that. We are not held back by insecurities—we don’t have them, we just don’t. Women over 50 don’t have things in their head cluttering their focus on the goal.”

Brzezinski has experienced this firsthand.

“It happened to me in my 50s—I realized how happy I was and how much I didn’t care what other people thought,” she exclusively tells Parade. “Things that used to bother me, like really cruel tweets or articles about me or anything, it was like the perspective of things that usually got me down went from 10 to zero in terms of taking up space in my head.”

She’s not alone in this observation.

“I know a lot of women [who have] expressed that one of the reasons why they feel so confident in these years and these decades is because they are confident,” she continues. “Because they’re not bothered and torn down by things that sometimes can be very distracting.”

That doesn’t mean women over 50 magically avoid conflicts, challenges or confrontations. It simply means they have a healthier perspective on handling said clashes.

“I mean, we’ve got problems like other women, but there’s just a lot of silly stuff in our brains that’s washed away and is replaced with, ‘What’s the problem, how can I help you? What’s the problem, how can I solve it?'” Brzezinski tells Parade. “We’re focused.”

Not only does this outlook benefit each individual—it also helps light the way for future leaders.

“We’re very focused, we’re very capable and the data is proving that we’re making more money, we’re spending more money and we’re becoming an incredible, powerful set of generations of women that send a powerful message to young women about what’s possible for them,” Brzezinski explains.
