This local Calgary animal shelter is in urgent need of foster parents

If you’ve been looking for a reason to bring a new furry friend into your life this winter, here’s your opportunity.

A local animal shelter, Furball Force, is urgently seeking cat and dog guardians for their foster care program. Fostering an animal allows them to live in a safe environment while they wait to be matched with their furever home.

According to Furball Force’s website, “Every rescue is only as strong as the people who open their homes and hearts, and we are no different. Fostering is at the core of everything we do. Without fosters, there is no rescue. With fosters, we can save lives, heal broken spirits, and give animals the second chance they deserve.”

The urgent call for foster parents was posted to Reddit by a user who volunteers at the shelter. In the post, they write: “Temporary (short-term, vacation coverage, etc) and long-term fosters are needed at this moment.”

What to expect

Foster homes are “the bridge between survival and forever homes,” Furball Force says on its website. The organization is an animal rescue shelter with a focus on animals that are often overlooked due to age, special needs or behavioural issues.

Furball Force relies heavily on its foster program to continue doing important community work. According to the rescue shelter, “We can’t succeed alone, and need the support of community members like you to really make a significant impact.”

Its foster program includes categories for kitten and whelping fosters, adult and senior fosters, small dog fosters, special needs and medical fosters, and behavioural fosters. There’s flexibility in what you decide to commit to, and whether you’re willing to welcome a kitten or a senior dog in your home, there’s something that’s right for every situation.

You won’t be left on your own either — the shelter provides all the essentials like food, litter, carriers and beds, as well as vet treatment and 24/7 support. You’ll also join a fun and supportive community that’s passionate about animals and allows you to connect with fellow foster parents.
