Everyone wants to smell good. Whether it’s with perfume or a fresh shower, it’s always nice to get compliments on your scent as you walk by. But sometimes, it can feel like your fragrances don’t last as long, whether it’s your shampoo smell or perfume. So, what can you do to help you smell good all of the time? Well, Reddit has some answers.
While users on Reddit aren’t experts—and you usually can’t verify if they are—the site is great for seeing what everyone else uses or what their routines are. A recent post asked, “You ladies who smell good all the time – what’s your secret?” The answers were not only helpful but also enlightening. One tip, in particular, was pretty surprising!

This One Surprising Secret Helps You ‘Smell Good All the Time’
A post on r/beauty from Feb. 27 asked women what their “secret” was to smelling good “all the time.” The person who posted this doesn’t have hygiene issues or odor problems, but they were just interested to know some tips to make the good scents from their shampoo, lotion and perfume last longer. And don’t we all want that?
One tip that came up often was to use Vaseline on the parts of your body where you’re spraying perfume to make the fragrance linger longer.
“Vaseline before perfume to make it last,” the top comment says.
Another person wrote to specifically use a Vaseline stick so it’s easier to apply and faster, which is useful if you’re in a hurry. Kind of like a little lip balm for your pulse points where you’re most likely spraying your perfume.
Fragrance influencer Paul Fino (@paulreactss on Instagram and TikTok) posted about this method last September, saying it’s “one simple step” that he has implemented into his routine “for years.”
“This might be the only thing to actually make your fragrance last because it creates a barrier on your skin, causing the fragrance oil not to absorb into your skin right away,” Fino explained in the video, before saying that he does it almost every day.

Other Tips on How To Smell Amazing
Now that you know that tried and true perfume hack about Vaseline, what are some other non-obvious ways to make yourself smell good all of the time?
“Antiperspirant at night so it has time to absorb into my skin by day,” one commenter wrote.
After you’ve showered and put on deodorant, if you’re looking to maximize your good smell, it’s also about what you put on top.
“Lotion, lotion, lotion every time I shower and at night,” the top comment also said.
Another person wrote that the order they put lotion and fragrances on also matters to them.
“I find if I put lotion on first, then perfume, it has more staying power,” they explained. “Also, when the perfume has a matching lotion (when they come in a set), that’s even better.”
Finally, on the hydration front, people love their body oils, which add variety to your body moisturizing routine and can help you smell good longer.
“Lotion twice a day, body oil at night after lotion/shower, dusting powder at night after the body oil,” one person commented.
And, of course, any type of scented shampoo and conditioner adds to your overall smell.
“Fragrance clings onto hair very well, so hair products with a nice smell will really help you smell good,” one user commented. “Grace Kelly used to spritz her hairbrush with perfume before brushing it.”
So, next time you find yourself wanting to be the person that walks by and people think, “Wow, what is that smell?” use one of these tips and you might achieve just that!
