Ready for your next outdoor adventure? Claireville Conservation Area is the largest natural setting of its kind, and you can find it right in the GTA. It’s home to wetlands, valleys, forests, grasslands, and the west branch of the Humber River.

You won’t have to travel far for this one! It’ll take about 30 minutes from downtown Toronto (if traffic is on your side) to get to the conservation area. But once you’re there, you will be taken over by the 848 hectares of natural and forested area that seeps into the Peel and Toronto region.

Exploring Claireville Conservation Area

According to the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, it’s “the largest natural setting of its kind on the doorstep of four of the GTA’s major cities: Brampton, Mississauga, Toronto and Vaughan.”

In the warmer seasons, Clairville is a popular destination for birders, walkers and cyclists. It’s also the home to the Indian Line Campground, Claireville Dam and Reservoir, Claireville Ranch and McVean Farm.

A few years ago, the TRCA, in partnership with the City of Brampton, proposed the construction of a new trail. The Claireville North Multi-use Trail spans 3.7 km in length.

The plan also included a new parking area and two new pedestrian bridges that stretch across the West Humber. This was completed in 2023 and has since been a favourite in the region. It’s important to note that trails are not maintained in the winter so if we do get another snowfall, watch out for your surroundings.

Is there parking at Claireville?

Considering this is a large park, there are three parking lots available:

  • Hwy. 50: 8180 Regional Road 50, Brampton, ON
  • Queen Street: 3805 Queen Street East, Brampton, ON
  • Gorewood Drive: 8196 Gorewood Drive, Brampton, ON

The conservation authority asks visitors not to block any gates, access roads, or exit routes. It’s also important not to park where signage indicates there is no parking.

Whether you’re a long-time local or a first-time visitor, Claireville Conservation Area provides a perfect blend of outdoor recreation and natural beauty.
