Collingwood, Ont., is a small yet wonderful town, home to stunning landscapes and a historically recognized downtown core. Despite its reputation for its proximity to a popular ski resort, Collingwood is more than just a pit stop. It’s next on our small-town adventure, and here’s what to know.

Hop in your car and make your way about two hours north of Toronto. Collingwood kisses the southern shore of Georgian Bay, and the area is well known for its many natural amenities.

According to the Town’s official site, it is quite the destination for tourism and many businesses, along with sporting and cultural events.

Explore the downtown core where you’ll come across over 30 different restaurants, more than 60 boutique shops, spas and live music spots. And what makes it even more special is the fact that the town’s downtown core was recognized in Canada’s Registrar of Historic Places.

But if you want to be one with nature and surround yourself with stunning fall foliage, this is the perfect place to be.

What to know about Collingwood, Ont.

According to the Town of Collingwood, it is home to over 60 km of multi-use recreational trails that serve cyclists, walkers, joggers, cross-country skiers, and snowshoers.

If you’re looking for some showstoppers, major trail destinations include:

  • The George Christie Nature Trails
  • The shoreline of Sunset Point Park
  • The scenic lookout at Millennium Park
  • The tranquil gardens of the Arboretum
  • The Collingwood Labyrinth
  • The Museum and Historic Downtown Collingwood

“The trail network includes granular, concrete, asphalt, wooden boardwalks, and natural surface trails,” adds the Town.

After exploring the almost-endless trails, head to downtown Collingwood for some much-needed grub and enjoy the live music.

Exploring the downtown core

The downtown core is so rich in culture and history that a stop at the Collingwood Museum is in order. According to Destination Ontario, it is housed in a train station that dates back to 1873.

Here you’ll find exhibits showcasing the town’s shipbuilding history, along with special exhibits and a gift shop.

And while you’re at it, check out the art murals scattered across the town – totally worth a photo op.

Though it’s a perfect winter escape, spring is almost as magical a time in Collingwood and a perfect opportunity to check out Blue Mountain.
