One of the prettiest areas you can visit in the province is cottage country. Haliburton, Ontario is known for its beauty year-round and the village has a pretty cool spot you may not have heard of – The Haliburton Sculpture Forest.

The forest is dotted with over 40 sculptures created by Canadian and international artists and autumn is the perfect time to visit.

Getting there

The Haliburton Sculpture Forest will take you around two hours and 45 minutes if you’re driving from Toronto.

The drive is the first part of the adventure as you’ll pass through areas with beautiful fall foliage.

So, what is the sculpture forest?

According to its website, the spot “is a unique outdoor collection of sculptures by Canadian and international artists.” Basically an outdoor art gallery!

The website continues, “The trails in the Sculpture Forest, for walking and bike riding in spring, summer, and fall and walking, snowshoeing, and skiing in the winter, provide changing perspectives of the forest and the sculptures in each of the seasons.”

There are 44 sculptures to check out right now, spanning 1.4 km of walking trails.

The best part is that the exhibit-like experience is free to enjoy and is open seven days a week from dawn until dusk meaning you can head over and enjoy the art all year round.

The sculptures are “strategically placed along the paths, creating a unique and immersive experience” and there is a trail map to use so you don’t miss any art pieces!

Your furry friends are also welcome to join you, too! The sculpture forest is pet-friendly just be sure to clean up after them.

One of the art examples (just to give you a taste) is Sleep of the Huntress.

The sculpture was created using Belmont Rose Granite, installed in 2004.

Pretty cool, right?
