Now THIS is the road trip you’re going to want to take this fall – but you only have a limited time to do so! Long Sault Parkway connects 11 islands via one road in Ontario and this time of year when the leaves are changing, it’s stunning.

Getting there

The parkway is just east of Kingston, Ontario tucked along the St. Lawrence River between Cornwall and Brockville.

If you’re driving from Toronto it’ll take you around four and a half hours to get there.

The parkway itself stretches 10 km which you can either drive or cycle along.

About Long Sault Parkway

According to Parks of the St. Lawrence, the Long Sault Parkway is “a series of 11 islands that were created from high points of land left after the flooding of the St. Lawrence River during the construction of the Seaway in the 1950s.”

The largest public beach on the St. Lawrence River corridor, Mille Roches, is along the parkway as well as winding bike paths, pristine nature trails, boat launches and picnic areas.

There are over 600 campsites in the area as well but if you’re hoping to book one make sure to do so ASAP as campsites close down in October (date depending on which site you’re interested in).

The parkway stays open until mid-November most years but is weather-dependent. Last year the driving route closed as of November 15th.

To put into perspective just how beautiful Long Sault Parkway is, it was actually featured on an episode of the latest season of ‘Amazing Race Canada’.

The episode featured the contestants making a stop just before the parkway at The Lost Villages Museum before navigating to the parkway to find a pitstop.

Head over to this natural sight soon, Ontario. Oh, and be sure to take lots of photos!
