It might not be swimming weather yet, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start dreaming about our summer plans! While Alberta has its fair share of lakes, this quaint hamlet puts you smack in the centre of all the action.
Tillicum Beach is a beachside hamlet in central Alberta, approximately 16 kilometres southeast of Camrose. It sits along the edge of a vast lake with serene waters and tons of activities to enjoy. Whether you’re an avid camper, pro angler, or just enjoy relaxing on the beach, this spot has you covered.
Here’s everything to know about Tillicum Beach, Alberta and what you can do while you’re there.
Things To Do
Tillicum Beach Park, situated on the shores of Driedmeat Lake, is a paradise for those who love the outdoors and lake life. Here are some of the top activities to try out when you visit.
Camping and Water Sports
There’s a campground and day-use area on the lake’s eastern shore at Tillicum Beach Park. The day-use area has a playground, ball diamonds, firepits, a picnic shelter, and bathrooms. The on-site boat launch also makes it easy to get your boat in the water or set out for a day of paddleboarding on the lake. If you’re interested in booking a spot, Tillicum Campground opens on May 9, 2025, for the season.
Fishing and Birdwatching
Driedmeat Lake is a famous fishing spot for northern pike in the summer and ice fishing in the winter. The lake is also an important staging ground for migratory birds such as snow geese and swans. In the summer, you can spot massive pelicans swooping overhead in flocks of up to 50!
Hiking and Local Attractions
Go for a stroll or ride along the many walking and cycling trails on either side of Dried Meat Lake. It’s a pretty long lake, so bring snacks and water along if you’re heading out for the day!
North of Tillicum Beach, you’ll come across Beesley’s Spring. The natural freshwater spring flows year-round thanks to the surrounding rock formations. However please note that this spring is untreated, so we wouldn’t recommend drinking from it, no matter how tempting.
