As anyone who has spent time exploring Alberta knows, we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to breathtaking views. From serene rolling foothills to the staggering drama of the Rockies, there’s no shortage of dazzling sights. Of course, far be it from us to pass up an opportunity to brag! A new list just dropped naming the top 10 views in Canada, and this Alberta lookout nabbed the number one spot.

A study conducted by Remitly looked at over 483,000 traveller reviews of over 411 popular Canadian sights to find the top viewpoints in each province. Bear’s Hump in Waterton, Alta., received the honour of topping the list, and it’s not hard to see why.

The famous lookout can be found at the end of Waterton’s favourite trail. This short and sweet hike is understandably popular, so expect some foot traffic if you’re visiting in peak season.

Hiking to Bear’s Hump

The hike up to Bear’s Hump is a visitor favourite, but luckily it’s also pretty moderate in terms of difficulty. The out-and-back trail is about 2.8 km, with an elevation gain of 225 m. All in all, it shouldn’t take you more than an hour. But it’s pretty enough that we suggest taking your time.

The short but steep trail will take you up to the bluff on the side of Mount Crandell. When you get to the top, you’ll realize why it earned the top spot as the most beautiful lookout in Canada. You’ll get sweeping vistas of the townsite, the Waterton Valley and lakes, south into the U.S. Glacier National Park, and northeast to prairie ranch land.

Stay a while, enjoy the sights, and take it all in. How lucky are we to live in a place like this?

Where: Waterton Lakes National Park, Waterton, Alta.
