Since Hoda Kotb left the Today show, a variety of media personalities have guest-hosted the fourth hour of the morning show while the program looks to find Jenna Bush Hager‘s new co-host for the segment.

But it appears that one of them got a little more than she bargained for after getting flustered around Sunday Today anchor Willie Geist.

Comedian Heather McMahan stopped by the NBC studios for a week-long stay on the show, and as evidenced by a video shared on social media, she ran into Geist in a dressing room and seemingly got a little nervous around the veteran journalist.

As Geist walked over to McMahan to greet her in the video published Feb. 27, McMahan gushed “you look so good in blue” before saying that she wasn’t ready. “Oh my god, I’m wearing my slippers!” she exclaimed.

“Are we an item?” joked Geist. “Yeah, we kind of are,” said MacMahan.

At that point, Bush Hager, who was sitting in the makeup chair next to McMahan, chimed in. “By the way, just to be clear, I heard from his wife. She’s OK,” she said, teasingly hinting that Geist’s wife Christina would be fine with him spending time with the podcaster.

Jeff was OK with it too!” said McMahan, referencing her husband, consultant Jeff Daniels (not the Emmy-award winning actor), who often comes up in her comedy routine. “He was like, ‘if anybody, it’s Willie.’”

Geist continued the bit, saying, “Christina was on board,” prompting Bush Hager to joke that she said yes as long as she can get tickets to see McMahan’s stand-up act.

“I was surprised at the lack of resistance I got from my wife. She was like, ‘great, she’s awesome,’” said Geist.

McMahan’s comedic chops were just as evident on-air this week, with fans sharing an overwhelmingly positive reaction to her co-hosting skills.

“[Make] her the permanent co-host she rocks! ❤️,” one Instagram user declared. Others agreed, saying that they love Bush Hager and McMahan together, and writing, “I need more of this maybe on a permanent basis.”
