Canada gets a lot of attention from the movie and TV industry as a stunning and diverse filming location. Now it’s time for foodies to get excited! The beloved competition cooking show Top Chef is premiering a new season this week, and it was filmed in Canada!

This is a first for the long-running cooking show, and that’s not all that’s different about this upcoming season. 15 contestants will be going head-to-head for the coveted title of Top Chef and “the largest grand prize package in Top Chef history” according to Bravo.

Season 22 will explore Canada’s rich culinary scene with stops in Toronto, Calgary, Montreal, and Prince Edward Island, and we can’t wait to play ‘location-spotting’ when it premieres!

Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming season of Top Chef, and where you can watch it.

What to expect this season

Season 22 of Top Chef will see the return of host Kristen Kish, who won the show herself back in season 10. Returning as judges will also be Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons, who is a Canadian from Toronto.

Of course, there will be guest judges appearing in different episodes, not least of which are special celebrity appearances from Michael Cera, Punkie Johnson, and Daniel Boulud!

There will be 15 chefs competing this season for the coveted title of Top Chef, with contestants from all over the world – including Massimo Piedimonte from Montréal.

This season will also see some shake-ups to classic Top Chef challenges. An announcement for the season on Bravo confirms that Kristen and the judges are setting “guardrails on overused concepts they don’t want to see in hopes of sparking fresh and out-of-the-box ideas” for Restaurant Wars.

Now we don’t exactly know what exactly these “guardrails” entail, but Restaurant Wars has long been one of the most highly-anticipated challenges of each season.

Clearly there’s a lot that’s going to be different about this season. But don’t worry Canadian viewers. It’s been confirmed by teasers shared on @bravotopchef’s Instagram, that there will be a poutine competition!

Known locations

This season of Top Chef was filmed all over Canada. While we don’t have anything specific to namedrop yet, season 22 trailers showcase sweeping shots of the Alberta Rockies, Niagara Falls, and the Toronto CN tower.

One clip even shows contestants on the CN Tower EdgeWalk.
