Ready to roll the dice? There’s an event coming to Toronto this week that lets you test drive new board games that are under development.
Are you the consummate Monopoly champion of your friend group? Has everyone in your life begun to refuse your invitations for a game of Risk because you’ve already mastered the art of strategy? It may be time to try out a new game. And by new, I mean never-before-played.
Enter Toronto’s Board Game Designer Nights, where game enthusiasts can have the chance to try out new games that are in development and offer their feedback to the creators.
Whether you bring your crew along or come solo to connect with fellow board game lovers, the event is a great way to put your game face on while also trying something new.
Organized by Changeling Gaming, a group of ‘board game sommeliers,’ and experienced gamers, the events are not only an opportunity for board game lovers to spice up their regular rotation, but for the games’ creators to get feedback from the people who know what they’re talking about.
You can try your hand at the board game-tester lifestyle at their next event, which is taking place at the Black Pony on Thursday, Feb. 27, between 7 and 10 p.m. Admission is free with an online RSVP, but attendees are encouraged to leave a tip or purchase a Changeling membership to help keep the events running.
If you miss this one, not to fear: Changeling is also partnered with Snakes & Lattes, where Board Game Designer Nights are held at their Little Italy location on the last Friday of every month, and at their Annex location on the second Monday of each month.
If that’s not enough to satisfy your enthusiasm for gaming, the city is also gearing up for the return of the annual Toronto Game Expo, which floods the Queen Elizabeth Building at Exhibition Place with board, video and computer games for an entire weekend at the end of March.
