There are plenty of nice houses in Toronto, but rarely is one so unique and beautiful that it once caught the eye of the late British rock star David Bowie.

Rumor has it that back in 2012, when 87 Highland Cres. was on the market, Bowie made a special trip just to see this house.

Now, they’re just rumours, but if any house is worth flying from London to Toronto to look at, this one is.

The living room has a wood-burning fireplace.

87 Highland Cres, also known as the Weathering Steel House, is a four-bedroom, six-bathroom architectural beauty designed by acclaimed architectural firm Shim-Sutcliffe.

The home was built in 2001 and was celebrated with the Governor General’s Architecture Award in 2004.

A bedroom.

Shim-Sutcliffe designed the home with a rich material palette of weathered steel, wood and water, with a focus on harmonizing the home with the natural elements of the ravine.

The dining room.

The home boasts 7,500 square feet of living space, and the interiors have an industrial mid-century vibe with exposed concrete walls and steel beams mixed with warm wood tones.

Doors that fully open to invite the outdoors in.

The L-shaped house wraps around a soothing two-tiered lily pond that flows into a lap pool.

The main floor.

With floor-to-ceiling windows all along the main floor, you get that perfect indoor-outdoor feel and tons of natural light.

The family room.

Despite being a large house with spacious principal rooms, nothing feels too cavernous or empty.

The kitchen.

The kitchen was designed by Akb Architects, and is a sleek modern space with integrated appliances and simple cabinetry.

A bedroom.

Upstairs you’ll find the bedrooms.

The primary ensuite bathroom.

The primary suite comes with a study, custom closet and a balcony that overlooks the pool.

The media room.

There’s more living space in the basement with a media room, extra bedroom, second kitchen and a gym.

An aerial view of the property.

The garden is also exceptional, boasting a design by landscape architect Neil Turnbull.

The ponds.

Turnbull designed the garden to attract local wildlife and help blend the home with the natural surroundings of the ravine and Rosedale Golf Club, while still letting you have a glimpse of that Toronto skyline.

The lap pool.

87 Highland Cres. is listed for $13,995,000.
