If you’re a self-certified bookworm, you’ll be pleased to hear that the Toronto Public Library (TPL) is hiring for a bunch of high-paying roles, and many of them don’t require more than a year’s worth of experience.

Most of the current opportunities with the TPL have closing application dates of May 9 or May 23, so if you see a job that looks like a perfect match for you, make sure to brush up your resume quickly and apply.

Whether you’re a student looking for a part-time job or have a degree in library or information science, chances are there’s a role that will match your qualifications. Here are just some of the open roles with the TPL right now.

Library Assistant – Public Services (Sunday)

The TPL is looking for a qualified individual who will be responsible for participating in implementing training programs, as well as selecting and training Page staff. The position pays $31.27 per hour, and employees who work on Sundays are paid a premium of $5 per hour for all hours worked.

To qualify, you should have a bachelor’s degree or diploma from a library technicians course from a community college or similar institution, and a minimum of one year of experience. If this sounds like the right fit for you, you have until May 23 to submit your application.

Public Service Assistant (Sunday)

In this role, you’ll be asked to carry out all tasks related to the circulation of materials and direct incoming calls, maintain files, order supplies, sort mail, and assist staff in the performance of specialized responsibilities.

The perfect candidate should have a secondary school graduation diploma or equivalency and a deep understanding and appreciation of the philosophy of public service to all, in accordance with human rights legislation. This position pays $27.54 per hour, and the last day to apply is May 23.

The TPL is hiring for numerous Page jobs across various branches, including those at Evelyn Gregory, Queen/Saulter, Thorncliffe, Riverdale, and Runnymede. To qualify, you should be at least 14 years old, be able to read English, be able to discriminate between numbers, and have the ability to work with fine detail.

Your tasks would include sorting and shelving books, packing and unpacking, photocopying materials, tidying tables and lounges, labelling, recovering books, as well as cleaning and inspecting audiovisual materials. This role pays between
$17.20 to $17.46 per hour, and your last chance to apply is on May 9.

Event Associate

This position is based at the Toronto Reference Library and pays between $60,242.00 and $68,013.40 per year, depending on your experience. Duties include coordinating the logistics of venue bookings, meeting with clients to organize and coordinate bookings, and finalizing client requirements, including room setup.

To qualify, you should have a college diploma in events, convention, or meeting management, tourism, or hospitality administration, as well as a minimum of one year of successful events coordination. If this sounds like your dream job, you have until May 9 to submit your application.

Librarian (Sunday)

If you have a graduate degree in library or information science, this role with the TPL might be a great fit for you. The position, which pays $40.38 per hour, requires you to provide information services and participate in the development of information tools at the system level, plan and conduct programs and events, and participate in branch and system collection development.

Aside from your degree, you should have knowledge of collection development, as well as adult, young people’s, and children’s literature. The last day to submit your application for this role is May 23.
