Toronto is already notorious for its traffic jams, but for the rest of the month, the city is gearing up to face even more gridlocks as multiple construction projects overlap across major roads and highways.

Whether you’re commuting on a highway or navigating through smaller streets, the next few weeks are sure to make travelling around the city even more challenging than it currently is.

From large-scale roadwork on busy highways to maintenance efforts on residential roads, here are just some of the construction projects set to affect travel across the city, according to the City’s website and Ontario 511.

Toronto streets
  • Adelaide Street West at Charlotte Street, duct bank installation taking place from Jan. 20 to Feb. 3
  • Bloor Street West from Old Mill Drive to Beresford Avenue, construction taking place between Jan. 27 and Feb. 28
  • Berkeley Street east of King Street East, one lane will be closed on Berkeley just south of King St. E. As crews begin site service connection works from Jan. 27 to Jan. 31
  • Queen Street East near Seaton Street, for the excavation and removal of abandoned sewer and water laterals from Jan. 27 to Jan. 31
  • Edward Street at Bay Street, crews installing conduit for fibre optics from Jan. 22 to Feb. 7
  • Dupont Street west of Shaw Street, crews will repair the damaged conduit from Jan. 20 to Jan. 27
  • Dupont Street from St George Street to Spadina Road, TTC subway track level work and rail replacement, shuttle buses will be running from. Jan. 25 to Jan. 27
  • Crescent Road and Yonge Street and Yonge Street at Ramsden Park Road for traffic signal upgrades between Jan. 20 and Jan. 31
Provincial highways
  • Highway 401 westbound and westbound express between Morningside Avenue and Highway 400, one alternating lane will be closed from Jan. 20 at 11 p.m. until Jan. 24 at 5 a.m.
  • Highway 400 southbound between Sheppard Avenue and Highway 401, three alternating lanes will be closed from Jan. 20 at 11 p.m. until Jan. 23 at 5 a.m.
  • Highway 401 eastbound transfer at Warden Avenue, one left lane will be closed from Jan. 22 at 11 p.m. until Jan. 24 at 5 a.m.
  • Highway 401 westbound express between Morningside Avenue and Midland Avenue, all lanes will be closed from Jan. 20 at 9 p.m. until Jan. 23 at 5 a.m.
  • Highway 401 westbound between Jane Street and Highway 409, two alternating lanes will be closed from Jan. 20 at 10 p.m. until Jan. 24 at 5:30 a.m.
  • Highway 401 eastbound express between Highway 400 and Morningside Avenue, Toronto, one alternating lane will be closed from Jan. 20 at 11 p.m. until Jan. 24 at 5 a.m.
  • Highway 401 eastbound express between Kennedy Road and Brimley Road, one left lane will be closed from Jan. 20 at 10 p.m. until Jan. 23 at 5 a.m.
