There’s a new rooftop patio opening in Toronto — but you’ll need a special ticket before you check it out.
On Monday, the City of Toronto and MLSE announced further details of an ongoing major renovation to BMO Field in preparation for six matches to be held at the venue during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
One of the new additions was a ticketed rooftop patio on the north side of the stadium that won’t be open for the tournament but will be available to fans for Toronto FC and Toronto Argonauts games, as well as other events taking place in the stadium.
The stadium has a capacity of 1,000 and will require a specific ticket to access.
Though it’s facing the south side of the stadium, if you turn your head left while on the patio, you’ll have a spectacular view of the downtown Toronto skyline.
For the FIFA World Cup, there will be 10,000 temporary seats added on the north grandstand and 7,000 on the south grandstand, bringing the capacity to around 45,000 for the duration of the tournament. The new ticketed patio will exist in the area under where the temporary seats will be added.
“The exciting changes to the stadium not only elevate the experience for FIFA World Cup 26 but are also intentionally designed to permanently benefit Toronto sports fans for the future,” said MLSE chief operating officer Nick Eaves in a release.
Additional permanent changes announced Monday include four new LED videoboards in the stadium’s corner columns, self-serve technology at select concession stands, stadium Wi-Fi upgrades, and a new centre-field lounge on the west side of the stadium.
The opening match involving Canada at the 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place in Toronto on June 12, 2026, with the final match in Toronto being a Round of 32 match on July 2, 2026.
Major League Soccer will be taking a break during the FIFA World Cup, while the Toronto Argonauts will likely go on a lengthy road trip to avoid conflicts during the CFL season.
So while we don’t know exactly when the patio’s first usage date will be, we can bet at some point in July 2026, you’ll be able to sip a drink on it.
