Travelodge Doubles Spanish Presence with Six-Hotel Purchase

Travelodge, a leading UK budget hotel chain with around 600 hotels, announced today that it is purchasing six hotels from Louvre Hotels Group in Spain. The acquired hotels, totaling 773 rooms, operate under the Hotel Campanile brand. Five of these hotels are freehold properties, while the remaining one is a long leasehold.

The properties are located in Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga, and Murcia and will be managed by the Spanish subsidiaries of the Travelodge OpCo Group. This move doubles Travelodge’s existing portfolio of six hotels in Spain.

Travelodge’s CEO, Jo Boydell, stated that Spain is a significant market for the company, with ample potential for expansion due to a lack of high-quality, low-cost, branded accommodation. The acquisition is part of the company’s Spanish development strategy, aiming to provide more options and value to both business and leisure travelers.

Earlier this year, the Travelodge PropCo Group, a new property holding group, was established to purchase 66 freehold and long leasehold assets in the UK from T&L Holdco Limited. T&L Holdco Limited is the parent company of Thame and London Limited, the leading company in the Travelodge OpCo Group.

The company opened its first Spanish hotel in Madrid in 2004 and expanded to Barcelona soon after. The company’s Spanish hotels cater to business and leisure guests, offering a variety of room types, meals at affordable prices, and Wi-Fi. All hotels are also pet-friendly.
