Trump set to give 2nd deposition in New York fraud lawsuit

new york –
Former US President Donald Trump was scheduled to visit the office of the Attorney General in New York on Thursday to take a second deposition in a legal battle over his company’s business practices.
The Republican was scheduled to meet with attorneys for Attorney General Letitia James, who sued Trump last year. Her lawsuit alleges that Trump and his family misled bankers and business people by providing false information about his net worth and the value of properties such as hotels and golf courses.
The case is unrelated to the felony criminal charges filed against Trump by the Manhattan District Attorney, who last week became the first former president to reach a historic arraignment.
Trump and his attorneys say the Democratic lawsuit against him is politically motivated and has no legal basis. At a press conference Wednesday on an unrelated issue, he declined to answer questions about the planned deposition.
Trump previously met with James’ attorneys on Aug. 10, but refused to answer all but a few procedural questions, accusing the Fifth Amendment of self-incrimination more than 400 times. exercised protection.
“Anyone who doesn’t accept the Fifth Amendment for my position is an idiot, an absolute idiot,” he said at the session. If so, I predicted that they would try to make it a criminal case.
“A single statement or answer that is slightly off, or even slightly off, by chance or mistake, such as when it was a beautiful sunny day when it was actually a little cloudy, is seldom recognized by law enforcement.” It’s a level not seen in this country because I’ve experienced it.
A trial in the lawsuit is scheduled for October.
It is unclear if Trump will answer questions during the second deposition if it goes as planned.
