TTC will shut down a 7km stretch of subway from Friday to Monday

Commuters, beware: Another significant TTC subway outage is planned for this weekend, and this one may sneak up on riders a bit sooner than expected.

The transit agency has announced that it will shutter service on a roughly seven-kilometre stretch of the Line 2 Bloor-Danforth, spanning five stations from Woodbine to Kennedy, from 11 p.m. on Friday, September 27 to 6 a.m. on Monday, September 30.

It is just the latest in a series of full-weekend closures that the TTC attributes to “planned track work,” and comes on the heels of early closures on a portion of this stretch lasting Monday to Thursday.

While previous full-weekend subway outages have only spanned Saturdays through the resumption of service on Monday mornings, the upcoming Line 2 closure may catch some riders off-guard due to its 11 p.m. start on Friday night.

Commuters may want to plan their post-work activities for Friday night accordingly, as anyone relying on this stretch of subway will be forced to suffer shuttle bus service.

The TTC is advising riders that staff will be available on-site to assist with any confusion, while stations along the closure will remain open for passengers to purchase/reload fares and connect with surface routes.

Regular service is planned to resume Monday, September 30, by the normal start of weekday service at 6 a.m.
