TV reporter, girl fatally shot in Florida: police

Orlando, FL –

A central Florida television journalist and a girl were shot dead Wednesday afternoon near the scene of the shooting, officials said.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina said at a press conference Wednesday night that he has detained 19-year-old Keith Melvin Moses, who he believes was responsible for both shootings in his Orlando neighborhood.

A journalist from Spectrum News 13 and a 9-year-old girl, as well as a television crew and the girl’s mother, were injured in the second shot. He was in critical condition at a local hospital.

“I want to acknowledge what a horrible day this has been for our community and our media partners,” Mina told a room full of reporters. I know many of you and I know the very difficult work you do and the work that is so important to our community and law enforcement. There is no one in our community-in mother No, not nine-year-olds, not news professionals, should be victims of gun violence in our communities.”

Mina said the motive for the shooting was not immediately clear.

The Pine Hills area, just northwest of Orlando, was the first to respond Wednesday morning after reports of a woman in her 20s being shot.

Witnesses said a man approached a news vehicle late Wednesday and opened fire before walking to a nearby house and shooting a mother and daughter.

According to Mina, Moses has already been charged with murder against the first victim, and charges will soon be filed against the remaining four victims. According to the sheriff, Moses’ criminal record includes gun charges, aggravated battery, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, and offenses of major theft.

Spectrum News 13 has yet to identify the crew involved in the shooting, according to an article on the station’s website.
