The University of Toronto has beaten Canada’s most prominent post-secondary schools in a new best universities ranking.

So, it gets the title of the best university in Canada and you get bragging rights if you’re a current student or a graduate!

CourseCompare’s ranking of the best universities in Canada was released at the beginning of 2025 and it focuses on the quality of education but also “career readiness.”

It looks at a university’s funding, teaching, student reputation, campus life, industry reputation and connections, and employment networks.

So, schools that make the list are the best for giving students not just an education but also the opportunities for “resilient careers.”

The University of Toronto has been ranked as Canada’s best university both in and out of the classroom, according to CourseCompare.

That’s because there are over 700 undergraduate programs and 200 graduate programs along with online courses and distance learning programs with the School of Continuing Studies.

Plus, there are more than 50 lifelong perks for alumni, including a $550 benefit for their first course with the School of Continuing Studies.

“Besides receiving a best-in-class education, enrolled students will benefit from U of T’s wide-ranging connections across academia and industry to gain practical work experience,” CourseCompare noted.

After the University of Toronto, McGill ranked second, the University of British Columbia ranked third, the University of Alberta ranked fourth and the University of Calgary ranked fifth.
