Love Lights at Capilano Bridge

Where should you plan to take your sweetheart on February 14th (and/or on the Family Day Long Weekend of February 14th to 17th)? What would make this year’s Valentine’s Day special? Below is a list of Vancouver’s Best Places’ ideas on where to spend time with your loved one.

See a Show

Live theatre is happening! Check out Vancouver’s Best Places’ Shows and Entertainment Calendar to see what’s playing. There are lots of different shows to see, including live comedy at The Improv Centre at Granville Island.

With comedy at The Improv Centre, in 2025 there’s the special Galentine’s Day show on February 13th followed by My Funny Valentine’s Day Show on February 14th. There are other fun shows over the weekend too. Visit theimprovcentre.ca website for tickets.

Another fabulous place to go on a date is to a live comedy show at the Just For Laughs Vancouver Comedy Festival. Running from February 13th until the 23rd in 2025, it starts just one day before Valentine’s Day this year. Tickets to the shows make awesome Valentine’s Day gifts!

In 2025 Vancouver Opera‘s production is Flight which is a comedy about an Iranian refugee who gets stuck at an airport. It’s based on a true story and is sung in English. It takes place at Queen Elizabeth Theatre on February 8th, 13th and 16th.

Metro Theatre is a great local theatre company that puts on fun shows throughout the year. Their current production Sinners runs until February 15th and has a show on the 14th as well. It’s a farcical comedy with a fast pace and plenty of laughs. Also showing is The Three Musketeers with the Arts Club at the Stanley Theatre.

In North Vancouver there’s Presentation House Theatre‘s play called Grandma. Gangsta. Guerrilla. It’s about a tough grandmother who escapes from her seniors home. The show takes place on February 13th to 16th in 2025.

What the Frock Productions hosts their Bacon & L’eggs show on February 16th this year too. It’s a family-friendly drag show and brunch at the Howe Sound Taphouse and Kitchen in East Vancouver. Performers include Carlotta, Phyllis Hull, Just Jenny and more.

See a Movie

See a Movie – it’s always a fun thing to do with your friends or on a date.

For a special adventure, there is FlyOver Canada at Canada Place. In 2025 on Valentine’s day and for the following few weeks, films include Awaken Canada and Hawaii From Above.

There are also films at the VIFF Centre as part of Black History Month on February 13th and 16th (as well as other dates this month too).

Get Tickets to a Concert

Valentine’s Day is a perfect day to give someone tickets to a concert, and there are a few concerts on and around February 14th in 2025.

For people who like classical music, there are concerts during the Lumen Festival presented by Early Music Vancouver. The first takes place on February 14th at the Chan Centre and the second show happens on February 15th at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church. Another show takes place on February 16th at Pacific Spirit United Church. Meanwhile, the Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra hosts a show at the Orpheum on February 16th.

For more modern music, the Barenaked Ladies perform at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond on February 14th.

Visit a Valentine’s-Themed Attraction

Capilano Suspension Bridge is one of the Lower Mainland’s top most-visited tourist attractions. It’s popular with both locals and visitors from out of town.

The attraction is especially beautiful at night throughout most of February. That’s because the attraction is decorated with lights and displays for Love Lights from January 31st until February 23rd, 2025.

The Fraser River Discovery Centre isn’t a “Valentine’s Day-themed attraction.” It does, however, have love-themed activities on the Family Day Weekend. On the Saturday to Monday of February 15th to 17th there is Love is in the Air which is a family-friendly event showcasing the courtship rituals of animals. Between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm each day there is the Wildlife Dating Show where you get to do some wildlife matchmaking to help animals find their perfect mate. From 1:00 until 3:00 pm, there is story time with the book Animal Snuggles: Affection in the Animal Kingdom by Aimee Reid. There are also crafts and other activities.

For those who enjoy yoga there’s a special Valentine’s Day Goat Yoga event at Maan Farms in Abbotsford. Goat Yoga is an hour of traditional Hatha yoga, but it’s done on a farm and while surrounded by a bunch of friendly goats. There’s time to pet and hang out with the animals afterwards as well as a healthy dinner and wine pairing. The event starts at 6:30 pm on February 14th in 2025.

Do an Adventure Activity

Fun places to play games on Valentine’s Day and/or weekends this time of year include in downtown Vancouver with Vancouver Mysteries or at Zero Latency in both Vancouver and Langley. See below for details about both activities.

Games with Vancouver Mysteries

Vancouver Mysteries offers outdoor adventure games in downtown Vancouver. You can play a secret agent game, a detective game or a superhero game. You can also go on a ghost-hunting adventure. The games are ideal for families with older children, groups of friends, or couples on their own or on double and triple dates.

In 2025 there are two special events to choose from as well (and with the first it includes food). There’s The Legend of the Gastown Gold and The Case of the Hotel Detective. Both include food and take place at 4:00 pm or 7:00 pm on different days over the Valentine’s Day weekend.

Visit the vancouvermysteries.com website to book your adventure and for further information about this Valentine’s Day opportunity.

(TIP: If you use the promo code BESTPLACES when booking an outdoor adventure game for three or more people you can save 10%. Note though that the discount isn’t valid for the indoor games.)

Games with Zero Latency

What could be more romantic than battling pirates, aliens or zombies with your significant other at your side, plus maybe a group of friends too. You can do that with the virtual reality games at Zero Latency. They have game centres in both Vancouver and Langley.

VANCOUVER WINE FESTIVAL IN 2025

It’s not on Valentine’s Day, but the Vancouver International Wine Festival does also happen in February and its events make fabulous activities for dates (and Valentine’s Day gifts). In 2025 the festival runs from February 22nd until March 2nd. Tickets sell fast, so get them while you can.

Stay at a Hotel

A romantic way to end Valentine’s Day is a night at a hotel in downtown Vancouver. StayVancouverHotels.com offers a number of fabulous bonus perks for people booking stays at qualifying downtown Vancouver hotels, including for stays during the week of Valentine’s Day and on the Family Day Long Weekend.

StayVancouverHotels.com is a website where you can find good deals at local hotels, and get bonus gifts when you make a reservation. Examples of the perks include tickets to the Vancouver International Wine Festival, Vancouver Marathon, GranFondo Bike Race and FlyOver at Canada Place.

Explore Interesting Places

Go window shopping and explore Granville Island and the False Creek Seawall, or go for a hike or leisurely stroll at one of Vancouver’s Best Parks and Places in Nature. The waterfront around North Vancouver’s Shipyards is also really nice, as are numerous other places in the Lower Mainland.

Go on a Tour

Forbidden Vancouver is an awesome walking tour company. In February of 2025 it offers the Hidden History & Sweet Treats Tour and Lost Souls of Gastown Tour on various days of the week.

The first of the above tours includes tasty treats to enjoy along the way. The second one is guided by a professional actor in period costume. Both take place in downtown Vancouver and are highly recommended for Valentine’s Day.

Go on a Valentine’s Day Boat Party Cruise

Vancouver Boat Parties hosts a special Valentine’s Day Dinner Cruise most years. In 2025 it takes place on Valentine’s Day, so on Friday, February 14th.

The cruise is held on the Burrard Queen in the waters around downtown Vancouver. The event features dinner, DJ music, dancing and spectacular views of the Vancouver skyline. The vessel departs at around 7:30 pm and returns at 10:30 pm.

To learn more about this and other similar events at other times of the year, see our article about Vancouver Boat Parties.

Get Some Hot Chocolate

The Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival ends on Valentine’s Day each year, so February 14th is the last chance to indulge in some special creations at cafes and coffee shops around town.

It’s a tiny festival with not much more than just a few extra fancy menu options at participating venues scattered around town. Nothing says “Happy Valentine’s Day”, though, like chocolate!

Check out the Lanterns and Lunar New Year Events

The Year of the Snake began on January 29th this year. That was a while ago, but Lunar New Year celebrations are still happening. LunarFest has events on February 14th as well as on February 15th to 17th (i.e., all Family Day Long Weekend). The Lantern City, meanwhile, has lantern art displays outside the Vancouver Art Gallery, on Granville Island, and at both the Pendulum Gallery and Bentall Centre. If you are downtown, especially if at Granville Island or near Robson Square, be sure to check these out. Romantic walks and admiring pretty lanterns can be fun to do with your loved one (especially if doing so either before or after dining out at a restaurant)!

Play in the Snow

Most years, a popular place to go on a date is one of the Lower Mainland’s Ski Hills. Spending the day up on the slopes with your loved one can be lots of fun! For romantic snow adventures, hopefully there’s more snow this season than there was in February of last year.

Valentine’s Activities in Downtown Vancouver

The following are things that you can do on Valentine’s Day in downtown Vancouver:
