Vancouver airport ‘on strong footing’ for Sunday operations, officials say

Officials at Vancouver International Airport said the airport’s operations were in good shape on Sunday, thanks to work carried out before and during Saturday night’s snowstorm.
“It was a very heavy storm that hit us Saturday night,” said Mike McEnany, the airport’s chief foreign affairs officer.
“What went into effect with our partners was a number of pre-emptive plans that have certainly put us on a stronger footing heading into Sunday.”

Airport officials say Sunday operations are 88 to 90 percent of normal service.
In terms of flight cancellations, the airport reports a total of 201 flights were canceled on Saturday and Sunday out of a possible 1,088 flights.
Airport crews remain busy on Sunday as de-icing facilities are running at full capacity.

As on Saturday, passengers are encouraged to check their flight status through their airline provider and YVR’s Twitter and web pages.
“Passengers must arrive at the airport a maximum of two hours prior to their scheduled flight for travel within Canada and three hours prior to travel to U.S. or international destinations,” the airport said. staff said in a release.
“The impact of overnight snow means that delays and additional scheduling adjustments remain possible.
“Our Guest Experience team and YVR staff are at the terminal to support those impacted by weather delays and assist new departing passengers (Sunday) morning.”
