Drake is breaking the internet once again, but, no, it’s not with a rebuttal to Kendrick’s scathing Superbowl LIX performance; a video has surfaced of the rapper hurling a shoe at a drone flying past his Sydney, Australia penthouse.

I guesss he’s not such a Certified Lover Boy when it comes to drones.

A video that surfaced on the r/Drizzy subreddit in the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 19 is making major waves among fans of Toronto’s sweetheart, Drake, wherein the rapper, seemingly being surveiled by a close-flying drone takes matters of defence into his own hands.

In the video, the drone can be seen doing a sweep of the “God’s Plan” singer’s sky-high patio, before sweeping around and spotting the star. Drake then removes a fluorescent orange sandal and whips it at the drone, which flies away, revealing a — particularly breathtaking, if I do say so myself — aerial view of Sydney.

While certainly hilarious, some eagle-eyed fans have been quick to point out that something feels a little fishy about the whole thing.

“Definitely feel like this is an ad,” one Reddit user notes under the video, taking notice of the opening shot of the video which shows a laptop seemingly open to Stake, the Australian sports betting site with which Drake has a partnership.

“Definitely feel like he whiffed that throw on purpose,” another user responds, “not trying to ding up the OVO drone lol.”

The title of the video, too; “Someone flew a drone to Drake’s penthouse in Sydney, Australia and caught him gambling,” lends creedence to the theory that the whole situation was actually a guerrila marketing stunt, a la Coors Light’s now-infamous misspelled billboards.

Drake, himself, seemed to confirm the suspicions in an Instagram post that shortly followed the video’s online surge, posting an image carousel which included a screenshot from the viral video immediately followed by an image of the rapper in Stake merchandise.

“The stakes are high… but so am I,” the caption reads.

The rapper has been residing in Australia since late January, 2025, as he takes his Anita Max Win tour across the country throughout February and heads on to Auckland, New Zealand in March.
