Olivia Plath sought to offer comfort in the wake of the 2024 presidential election with a video message she shared with her fans on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

The Welcome to Plathville star opened her remarks, which she posted on Instagram, by addressing women in America for whom she said “today has been full of despair and not hope,” referencing Donald Trump’s victory in his race against Vice President Kamala Harris.

“I just wanted to say: That is so understandable,” the reality TV star said. “You are not alone.”

Olivia, who divorced Ethan Plath earlier this year, then shared “a small little story” that she was hopeful “might bring some warmth to your heart, like it did mine when I thought about it.”

As the photographer then recalled, she was in Paris, France, on the day in June 2022 when she learned the U.S. Supreme Court had overturned Roe v. Wade, a ruling that changed the abortion conversation in the U.S. as many now face restricted access to the reproductive medical treatment. While Olivia said the ruling made her feel “like the floor fell out from underneath me,” her ex-husband “was celebrating.”

After feeling pressured to discuss their differences in opinion on Roe for an estimated 30 minutes, Olivia said their debate ended with her “looking up how to call the French police, because I felt physically unsafe in that apartment.”

“Flash forward to now, with Trump winning, America proving that they honestly kind of despise women,” Olivia suggested, noting how more people voted for someone accused of sexual assault and “a convicted felon over a woman.” She contrasted her husband’s response to the overturning of Roe with how her new boyfriend reacted after learning that Trump won the election.

“My current partner said, ‘I am so sorry. What do we do? How do we make the world safer for you? What can I do? Where are we going? Where are we moving? Take all the space you need,’” she explained.

The 26-year-old TLC star then sent a direct message to women who might be wondering if they “deserve better.”

“I just wanted to say, from someone else—there’s better out there, and you deserve it,” she said. “It took me a few years to work out all the logistics and be brave enough to leave. And if that takes you time, it’s OK. But just know it’s out there. Hold out hope. You deserve it.”

Olivia provided even more context for her message in her Instagram caption. “I was married to a Christian Nationalist and this is my solidarity for other women in similar relationships who are wondering if men exist who will hear them, support them and respect them,” she wrote, adding, “They do exist.”

She further emphasized her point by telling fans that it is “okay to end relationships over politics, because it’s a much bigger picture at the end of the day.”

“If you are in a relationship like that, you deserve better,” her caption concluded. “And it’s out there. I wish for you the self confidence to believe it and the hope to find it 🫶🏼.”
