Surf’s up, Calgary! WestJet has just announced new weekly nonstop flights to Puerto Escondido, Mexico.

Beginning Dec. 12, travelers will soon have a direct flight option to the coastal surf town in Oaxaca, Mexico.

“For those looking to trade snow for sunshine, Puerto Escondido offers the perfect escape,” says John Weatherill, WestJet’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer. “… a vibrant blend of beautiful beaches, authentic Mexican flavours, world-class surfing and the warm, festive spirit that makes Mexico so special.”

What to expect

Puerto Escondido has quickly become one of the most sought-after vacation destinations for Canadians, known for its stunning beaches, warm weather, and surf culture.

In addition to Puerto Escondido, WestJet will operate 15 non-stop routes between Calgary and Mexico this winter.

The new flights will depart weekly beginning on Dec. 12, which makes this the perfect announcement for snowbirds looking to flee to warmer weather.

Puerto Escondido is a world-class surf destination, with waves at Zicatela and La Punta reaching exponential heights. There are eight beautiful beaches nearby where you can catch the surf, sip mezcal at sunset and revel in the anything-goes nightlife culture.

The new flight route is also solidifying international connections between Mexico and Canada, strengthening relationships between citizens of the two countries.

“With this launch, Puerto Escondido further strengthens its international connectivity with Canada, opening new opportunities for travellers to discover its unique charm,” says Javier Garcia Bejos, CEO of Aeropuertos Mexicanos (AME).

So let this flight take you away from work, and don’t forget to grab your board. Puerto Escondido is the ultimate winter vacation. Cowabunga, dude!
