The summer weather is perfect this time of year, especially for those movie-lovers looking to get outdoors.
We’ve compiled a list of the best events in and around Edmonton for outdoor movies this summer. These showings are free for all, and most importantly, family-friendly. Don’t miss your chance to go outside and enjoy the good weather, take a drive and park in front of the big screen.
In the city
Movie at Mayfield
At the RioCan Mayfield, guests are invited to watch a movie on the big screen and enjoy pre-show entertainment like airbrush tattoos, balloon artists, and a memory-commemorating photobooth.
This outdoor event is drive-in style, so don’t forget to bring fold-out chairs for sitting up front or blankets for your car beds to watch the movie in comfort. The movie being featured will be The Wild Robot, described as “a heartwarming tale of survival and discovery.”

Movies on the Square
At this all-day event in the heart of Edmonton, guests are invited to bring blankets, chairs and popcorn for an unforgettable day.
Beginning at noon, this marathon will feature Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 back to back on the big screen. The fun doesn’t end at movies, though, as on-site entertainment and activities will be available, including a variety of food trucks for refreshments.

Movie Night in the Park
The Lewis Estates Community League will be holding a magical evening under the stars in September, an outdoor movie and fireworks to end off a perfect night market.
The Wild Robot will be featured on the big screen, with hot dogs, popcorn, candy, pop and more available at the concession.

Just outside of Edmonton
Movie Under the Stars
Movie Under the Stars in Fort Saskatchewan will now be featuring two movies for twice the fun. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) will be shown as the two feature movies.
Before the evening begins, there are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle-themed activities for all ages running from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. In addition to the activities, concessions are available throughout the evening, as BGC Fort Saskatchewan will be fundraising through the sale of hot dogs, popcorn, candy, and drinks.

Calmar Days’ Outdoor Summer Movie Series
Calmar Days is a two-day festival held in Calmar to celebrate the Town and the season. They will be holding their Outdoor Summer Movies Series on the Friday evening the festival begins, showing the new live-action How to Train Your Dragon (2025).

Movie in the Park
Out in Stony Plain, guests are invited to come out and enjoy a family-friendly movie on the big screen.
They will be showing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), and the Stony Plain Youth Event Team bring the themed Gobblestop Snack Shop, their version of a concession stand.
When: Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025

Movies at the Mile
The last Wednesday of each summer month, the Century Mile Casino holds an outdoor movie night for everyone to enjoy. This August marks the last Movies at the Mile for this year.
Get excited, bring your lawn chairs, picnic blankets, sleeping bags, or air mattresses and drive down to Nisku for the big screen. The movie is still TBA, so keep an eye out!
