In late September of 2022, Netflix India announced an official Hindi adaptation of the hit Original Spanish series Elite called Class. The Spanish series ran for eight seasons, ending in 2018 with a total of 64 episodes.
The Indian series would be written by Ashim Ahluwalia, Bhaskar Hazarika, Indra Bisht, Kashyap Kapoor, and Raghav Kakkar from a screenplay by Kersi Khambatta. Ahluwalia would direct the series along with Gul Dharmani and Kabir Mehta.
As with the inspiration series, the new Hindi show focused on the turbulent integration of three working-class students into a private high school that caters to wealthy families. A core of teen protagonists meant that Netflix could cast a crew of relatively unknown (and inexpensive) lead actors rather than shelling out for a marquee star, as with many of its other Indian Originals.
Among the main cast, only Anjali Sivaraman (Cobalt Blue) and Gurfateh Pirzada (Guilty) had significant credits to their names (both Netflix Original films). The rest of the ensemble was made up of Piyush Khati, Madhyama Segal, Cwaayal Singh, Zeyn Shaw, Chintan Rachchh, Ayesha Kanga, Moses Koul, Chayan Chopra, and Naina Bhan.
How Did Class Do?
Class debuted on February 3, 2023. It wasn’t an immediate international hit, only featuring in the global Top 10 Non-English Series for one week. However, it was a big regional success, spending seven weeks in the Top 10 in India, and five weeks in both Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Those stats were good enough that a second season of Class was announced on March 6, 2023 — just a month after its debut — as part of a slate of Netflix India series renewals.
What Happened Next?
In September 2024, Times of India reported that Class Season 2 was scheduled to begin shooting “in the coming months” — so before the end of 2024. There were no updates after that.
The first warning signs emerged a year later, during a Reddit AMA by actor Anjali Sivaraman to promote an unrelated project. She answered a question about who her favorite Class co-stars were — “I am the closest to Zeyn, Madhyama and Chintan!” — but didn’t respond to multiple questions about when the series would return.
In October 2025, Ayesha Kanga told Financial Express that the new season of Class was cancelled:
“It’s only bad news,” she sighed and told us that “it’s not happening.”
Further confirmation came on February 6, 2026, when Gurfateh Pirzada confirmed Kanga’s statement in a post on his Instagram:
unfortunately we could not give you another season because life usually has other plans…l still remember it was the last week of 2024 when I heard the news of class being cancelled and I came down with a high fever and thought not again…not another one of my projects getting shelved
Based on Pirzada’s timeline and the Times of India report, it sounds as though Season 2 was ready to film, but production was halted before shooting began. This fits with other Netflix India shows that were officially renewed but cancelled (Kaala Paani) or postponed (Black Warrant) just before shooting started on their sophomore seasons.
Is Class 2 Really Cancelled?
We requested a comment from Netflix but did not receive a response, nor has the streamer made any other public statements confirming the current status of Class Season 2. However, at some point since its renewal, Netflix removed the “It’s Official: Another Season is Coming” label from Class‘s catalogue entry — a strong sign that the show is over. (Incidentally, another Indian Original series featured in the same renewal slate with Class in 2023 — She Season 3 — also quietly lost its “It’s Official” label before a new season materialized, but without being formally cancelled.)
