Did you feel the earth shake on Tuesday? No, that wasn’t a freak tremor – it was the pop culture news heard around the world: Superstar singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce are engaged. For one rare moment in a calamitous news cycle, fans united in a moment that felt truly wholesome.
In an Instagram announcement posted jointly to Swift’s and Kelce’s accounts, the couple appeared surrounded by roses, anemones, lilies and other pastel blooms worthy of a rococo painting. He’s on one knee, she’s cupping his face tenderly. Another image shows a close-up of the gargantuan ring: a Victorian-inspired, cushion-cut elongated diamond, reportedly weighing around eight carats and worth around US$500,000. To cut through the extravagance, the caption reads, in Swift’s signature relatable tone: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
What the musician will wear to her wedding is sure to remain shrouded in mystery until at least the big day. But her style, which tends to oscillate between girl next door and Old Hollywood glamour, may provide clues. Swift famously buries Easter eggs in her fashion choices for fans to decode, such as when she wore a crystal-embellished Oscar de la Renta mini-dress to the 2022 VMAs; it featured layers of shimmering chains that hinted at the release of her album Midnights (the chains evoking a star-filled night sky, of course).

Will she continue to favour classic styling details, such as corsets? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: “This isn’t just a personal milestone – it’s a cultural moment that will be revisited for years, so the dress needs to make a statement,” says Toronto-based stylist Jay Kim Valentine.
Swift often turns to de la Renta, Elie Saab and Vivienne Westwood (the latter a recent favourite of celebrity brides, including Charli XCX) for her red-carpet looks. Here, three Canadian stylists weigh in on who and what she might wear on her big day.
The haute couture stunner
Valentine sees Swift channelling the Schiaparelli white silk crepe draped bustier gown she wore to last year’s Grammy Awards, but in an updated style, like a white version of the drop-waisted gown from the house’s spring 2025 couture collection, shown front left in this Instagram post. It features a nude satin base and tulle overlay, which cascades into a dramatic, voluminous skirt.
“You could also imagine it with tulle added or even a veil integrated into the design for extra drama,” Valentine says.
The two-in-one
“Swift has a close relationship with Donatella Versace and often wears Oscar de la Renta, so I have a sneaking suspicion that one of those ateliers will be hard at work soon,” says Montreal-based stylist Amanda Lee Shirreffs.
For the ceremony, she envisions Swift in a classic cut with volume, like this gown from de la Renta’s spring 2026 bridal collection, maybe embroidered with lyrics and paired with a long veil. The pop star’s signature red lips will be on full display, Shirreffs also predicts – adding that perhaps makeup artist Pat McGrath will create a special, smudge-proof edition just for her.
For the reception, Shirreffs sees Swift reaching into the Versace archives for this sequin mini worn on the runway by Kate Moss. “She does love a little razzle-dazzle, and to me, nothing screams pop star at the altar than the Versace bride.”
The minimalist twist
Toronto-based stylist Jaclyn Bonavota envisions Swift doing a stylistic about-face and wearing something similar to this unadorned, off-the-shoulder maxi dress by Tom Ford.
“It would be quite an unexpected move for her to be in something so minimal, timeless, yet architecturally striking,” she says.
