Guess what, Vancouver? The city’s unofficial representative in Hollywood and beyond just received The Order of BC – AKA the highest honour in the province. He’s known for his role in the Marvel Universe among many others, as well as numerous eclectic business ventures. Yes, we’re talking about Ryan Reynolds!
On August 7th, Reynolds and 223 other British Columbians were nominated to join the Canadian Honours System for 2023. When all was said and done, he was one of 14 individuals to be awarded the Order of British Columbia.
“This honour is a mark of excellence, reflected in the service and achievements of these incredible British Columbians,” says Lieutenant Governor of BC Janet Austin. “Their accomplishments have left an indelible mark on their communities, and ensuing legacies will impact our province to the benefit of future generations.”

Small ceremony
On Wednesday, November 15th, Reynolds was officially inducted into the Order of BC during a small ceremony by BC Premier David Eby and BC Lieutenant Governor Janet Austin.
“Ryan’s extraordinary skill as an actor and entertainer is well known,” says Premier Eby. “He can put a smile on the face of almost anyone.”
In true Ryan Reynolds fashion, the actor took to Instagram to share his gratitude in a quick-witted caption.
“Receiving the Order of British Columbia is the honour of a lifetime,” his caption reads. I could have been born anywhere but I had the dumb and incredible luck to be made in Vancouver.”
“Contrary to my earlier belief, the award is NOT a political appointment. It’s merely symbolic and holds no real power.”
“To that end, I may have made some promises to several folks working at Minerva’s restaurant in Kerrisdale – as well as Tyler who works in the produce section at Safeway on 4th and Vine…,” and also added that “Being home for 24 hours made my life 10,000 hours better.”
Personally, we’d love to see Ryan Reynolds wield his political power around the city (and turn Grouse Mountain into a “giant slip ‘n slide”). But something tells us that these ideas may be better suited for the big screen.
