Outlander is back for its eighth and final season to wrap up the epic love story between Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe) in the time-travel drama based on the bestselling novels by Diana Gabaldon.
The STARZ series is ending before Gabaldon has finished the final book in the Outlander franchise, so how she’s concluding things will not necessarily be how the series ends. In fact, according to what showrunner Matthew B. Roberts told Parade, he filmed more than one possible finale.
“We wrote multiple endings, we filmed a few different things in that sense,” he said in an exclusive Zoom interview. “It was mostly for the scripts, because sometimes scripts get out and we wanted to protect that. If we printed the final script, then everybody would know. But the final cut, only a handful of people have seen it.”
Season 8 of Outlander is primarily based on Gabaldon’s ninth book in series, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone (2021), and because the author does consult on the series, it is possible that it will also include elements from the unreleased tenth book, A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out.
Below is a list of the episode titles for Season 8, which may give a clue as to what stories the final season will include.
