Viper is a melee DPS job in Final Fantasy 14, introduced alongside the Dawntrail expansion. Vipers use dual blades that attach in the middle to dish out damage.

Vipers hack and slash as a scouting class, sharing its gear with Ninjas. It mainly uses three-step combos while ending its combo with different skills.

Below, we explain what you need to do to unlock Viper in FFXIV.

Where to unlock Viper in FFXIV

Viper unlocks via a quest in Ul’dah. Before you head there, you’ll want to make sure you have met the following prerequisites:

  • You have one combat job at level 80 or higher.
  • You own the Dawntrail expansion.

Once you meet those two requirements, head over to Ul’dah, Steps of Nald and talk to the Worried Weaver NPC at the location below to accept the quest “Enter the Viper.”

After finishing this quest, you’ll be able to equip your job stone and Viper blades to play as the new melee DPS job.

While the quest will give you some passable gear, if you want to be suited up properly for your new journey, consider picking up Augmented Cryptlurker gear from Aymark in Eulmore or Mowen’s Merchant in the Crystarium in exchange for Allagan Tomestones of Poetics. Vipers use scouting gear (the same gear that Ninjas use).
