The second night of Battles for Season 27 of The Voice took place tonight, with coaches Adam Levine, Kelsea Ballerini, John Legend and Michael Bublé matching up two members of their teams in sing-offs which determined which artist went through to the Knockouts and which one went home.

This season, celebrity advisors have returned for the Battles. Cynthia Erivo is assisting Team Bublé, Kate Hudson is tutoring Team Adam, Coco Jones is guiding Team Legend, and country great Little Big Town (Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet, and Jimi Westbrook) is instructing Team Kelsea.

Each coach has one Steal and One Save this season. On night one, Adam used his Save on Darius J. John used his Steal for country singer Tatum Scott and his Save to keep Nell Simmons on his team. Night two saw Adam use his Steal for Ari Camille, Michael use his Save for Barry Jean Fontenot, and Kelsea use her Save for Hailey Wright.

Battle Round 1: Ari Camille and Bryson Battle (4-chair turn) from Team Legend

Song: “Made For Me” by Muni Long

Winner: Bryson Battle

John said: “Ari vs Bryson, I loved both of their individual performances. But Bryson is truly one of the best vocalists we have in the competition this season. Bryson could win The Voice with his raw talent, his charisma, his confidence. He could be unstoppable.”

But Ari isn’t going anywhere. Both Adam and Kelsea pressed their buttons to Steal. Ari chose Adam.

Steal: Ari Camille

Adam said: “I had to steal Ari. She’s young and vibrant and hungry and has this quality to her – a voice and beyond. She’s the whole package.”

Battle Round 2: Hayden Grove vs Lucia Flores-Wiseman (4-chair turn) from Team Adam

Song: “My Funny Valentine” by Frank Sinatra

Winner: Lucia Flores-Wiseman

Adam said: “I had to go with Lucia because there’s something about her that is undeniably different, and I’m so into different. She doesn’t just have a cool and unique voice, she also has this tremendous power that I want to continue to unlock. She can be in the finale if we play our cards right.”

Battle Round 3: Grace-Miller Moody vs Taylor Templet from Team Adam

Song: “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon

Winner: Grace-Miller Moody

Adam said: “Grace-Miller has like this heart-wrenching little break in her voice that’s kind of her power as a singer and I just love hearing it.”

Battle Round 4: J. Alanna Lynise vs Brook Wood from Team Kelsea

Song: “Angels Like You” by Miley Cyrus

Winner: Alanna Lynise

Kelsea said: “Alanna is more of a nuanced voice. She really does have this cool playground in her midrange that is really special. Knowing what I’m good at and capable of, I felt I could better support Alanna.”

Battle Round 5: Barry Jean Fontenot vs Kaiya Hamilton from Team Bublé

Song: “Cry to Me” by Solomon Burke

Winner: Kaiya Hamilton

Michael said: “Kaiya was flawless. That’s all you know as somebody who’s teaching, somebody who will listen and learn and use it to the best of their ability, and she did.”

But Barry Jean isn’t leaving the competition. Michael hit his Save button, while Kelsea hit her Steal button.

Save: Barry Jean Fontenot

Michael said: “Barry has a unique voice. It very much reminds me of Sam Cook, one of my favorite singers of all time. If you have a mix of a great instrument and likeability, then you have a real chance not only to win this show, but to have a career, and that’s what I hope for Barry.

Battle Round 6: Naomi Soleil vs Kameron Jaso from Team Bublé

Song: “You Make My Dreams (Come True)” by Hall & Oates

Winner: Kameron Jaso

Michael said: “Kameron has a lot of potential. He has great pitch control, he has a big heart, very charismatic. He’s the whole package. I think Team Bublé is looking very strong.”

Battle Round 7: Aaron Rizzo vs Carlos Santiago from Team Bublé

Song: “Gravity”

Winner: Carlos Santiago

Michael said: “I love Carlos’ voice. Technically, he’s got it all. He can be versatile. I think he can move between different kinds of pop. My team has come together. In this cake I’m baking, I think I just added a ton of sweetness, and I love it.”

Battle Round 8: Antonio Ramsey (Replay) vs BDii (4-chair turn) from Team Legend

Song: “Just Friends (Sunny)” by Musiq Soulchild

Winner: BDii

John said: “BDii reminds you of DeAngelo and reminds you of that era of what they called neo-soul. I love the swagger that he brings to a performance. It’s like he’s not trying too hard, and that’s why I chose BDii.”

Battle Round 9: Hailey Wright vs Jalen Johnston from Team Kelsea

Song: “Neon Moon” by Brooks & Dunn

Winner: Jalen Johnston

Kelsea said: “Jalen just has that thing that as soon as he started singing, the audience reacted. He has a reactive voice. You can’t explain it. It’s like lightning in a bottle. Country music is going to be: ‘Where have you been, and why aren’t you on our label?’”

Save: Hailey Wright

Kelsea said: “I just had that feeling when Hailey was walking off stage that I can’t. She has that kind of voice where when you hear it on the radio, you know it’s her. We’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg, so I feel there’s more to do, and I want to be a part of it. I really do.”
